September 5th 2008
Opening Week!!
Tampa Bay Bucs
at New Orleans Saints September 7th 01:00 EST - Saints and
Bucs meet at the Superdome in a clash that pits offense vs
defense. Saints among the league leaders in passing offense
behind Brees (4423 yds, 28 TD, 18 Int) and his main target
Marques Colston (1202 yds, 11 TD) notched 23.7 points per game
last year on 270.5 passing, 91.3 rushing yards/game. Bucs under
defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin surrendered just 16.8 PPG on
170.9 passing, 107.8 rushing yards/game. Since defense usually
trumps offense, take the points knowing Bucs have cashed seven
of last nine meetings including five straight as the visitor in
this bitter NFC South rivalry.
Detroit Lions
at Altlanta Falcons September 7th 01:00 EST
Lions off a disappointing 7-9 (6-9-1 ATS) season after faltering
down the stretch with it's 1-7 (1-7 ATS) mark should get off to
winning start against rebuilding Falcons that were 4-12 (8-8 ATS)
in 2007 and open with rookie QB Matt Ryan guiding a squad that
managed just 16.1 PPG overall. Then, again Lions as favorites on
the road is cause for concern, the MoTown Boys were 2-6 (2-6 ATS)
on the highway last year and have one ugly 16-64 (32-46-2 ATS)
road record dating back to '98 which includes 0-6 both SU & ATS
laying points away.
Houston Texans
at Pittsburgh Steelers September 7th 01:00 EST - Steelers
who have five straight opening victories (1-4 ATS) to their
credit take on rising Texans. Little doubt Steelers are a mean
machine on Heinz field after going 7-1 (5-3 ATS) last season
bringing the mark to 25-7 (19-13 ATS) the past four years.
However, taking a huge hit on it's already suspect offensive
line with the departure of Alan Faneco Steelers could have
trouble covering the huge 6-point spot against the speedy
defensive front of the Texans led by Mario Williams (14 sacks).
