College Football: Rose Bowl Betting:
Wisconsin Badgers vs. Oregon Ducks - January 2nd 2012
Perhaps
the most anticipated bowl game of the season outside of the
national championship game is the Jan. 2 Rose Bowl, a titanic
showdown between No. 5 Oregon, the Pac-12 champion, and No. 8
Wisconsin, the Big Ten winner. The Ducks are 6-point favorites
on

The Badgers (11-2, 7-5-1 ATS) are in their second straight Rose
Bowl after losing 21-19 to TCU last year. Wisconsin was perhaps
only two plays and about 20 seconds from playing in the national
title game this season: UW lost on a last-second Hail Mary to
Michigan State and then the following week on a 40-yard TD pass
with 20 seconds left to Ohio State. But the Badgers have been
mostly dominant since that OSU loss and got payback against
Michigan State with a 42-39 victory in the first Big Ten title
game. Running back Montee Ball, a Heisman finalist, leads the
nation with 1,759 rushing yards and 38 total touchdowns on the
season, which is one short of tying Barry Sanders’ FBS record.
Ball has scored at least twice in 13 straight games, an NCAA
record. And QB Russell Wilson was second in the nation in passer
rating.
The Ducks (11-2, 6-5-2 ATS) are still looking for their first
bowl win under Chip Kelly. They lost to Terrelle Pryor and Ohio
State in the Rose Bowl two seasons ago before falling in the BCS
title game last season to Auburn. Oregon was positioned well to
play in the title game again before being upset at home by USC
on Nov. 19 (Ducks’ other loss was in the opener to now No. 1 LSU
in which Oregon outgained the Tigers but committed four
turnovers). Following that, the Ducks blew out Oregon State and
then UCLA in the inaugural Pac-12 title game. This likely will
be the final game for star running back LaMichael James, who
reportedly will enter the NFL draft. James finished fourth in
the nation in rushing yards despite missing two games with
injuries.
The total in this one at
BOVADA Sportsbook is 72, which is the
second-highest of any bowl game. Oregon ranked No. 3 in the
nation in scoring this year at 46.2, while Wisconsin was No. 4
at 44.6 ppg. Neither team has been held under 27 points in a
game so far.
This is Wisconsin’s eighth Rose Bowl – the Badgers last won it
on Jan. 1, 2000. Oregon has made five appearances in the Rose
Bowl, but hasn't won it since beating Pennsylvania 14-0 in the
third edition of the game on Jan. 1, 1917. Oregon and Wisconsin
haven’t played since 2001. They did have a common opponent this
year. The Badgers beat Oregon State 35-0 back on Sept. 10 in
Madison, while Oregon beat the visiting Beavers 49-21 on Nov.
26.
