Dick Fowler was born in Toronto, Ontario in 1921. The 6 ft. 5 in. , 215 lb right hander played 10 years in the majors, all with the Philadelphia Athletics. Fowler made his major league debut at the age of 20 against the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 13,1941. In 1942, Dick hurled all 16 innings in a 1-0 loss to the St. Louis Browns. This extra inning stint probably brought on the bursitis, which plagued Fowler during his pitching career. In Sept., 1945, Fowler hurled a no-hitter against the St. Louis Browns at Philadelphia's Shibe Park. It was his first start of the season after serving 3 years in the Canadian Army. He was the first Canadian to hurl a no-hitter in the major leagues. Fowler left the majors in 1952, compiling a lifetime 66-79 record and a respectable 88 hits, including 1 home run. In 1972, Dick passed away at the age of 51 in Oneonta, NY. Fowler became a member of the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985.
