Koskie To Be Honoured At SkyDome Saturday
St. Marys - Twins slugger Corey Koskie will be presented with the 2001
James "Tip" O'Neill Award in a brief ceremony just prior to the
national anthems when the Blue Jays host the Twins on Saturday, April 6th.
The award is given annually by the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame &
Museum, to the Canadian player judged to have excelled in individual
achievement and team contribution while adhering to baseball's highest
ideals. Koskie, a native of Anola, Manitoba, was named a co-winner
of the Tip O'Neill Award along with Larry Walker. Leading the Twins
through August in the 2001 pennant race, Koskie was the first American
League third baseman ever to hit more than 25 homers, steal more than 25
bases, and drive in more than 100 runs.
The CBHFM will induct six baseball legends at this year's ceremony on
June 22 in St. Marys, including Paul Beeston, Cito Gaston, Don McDougall,
Dave Shury, Harry Simmons and Bill Slack.
