NCAA Basketball Betting:
West Region - UConn vs. San Diego State Thursday, March
24th, 7:15 EST
– In the bottom half of the West Region
the seeds held form. Third seeded Connecticut, the hottest team
in the NCAA Tournament, advances to meet the second seeded and
most likely the lesser known higher seed in San Diego State.
After sweeping through the Big East Tournament, the Huskies have
had little trouble with their first two NCAA Tournament
opponents. They opened with an easy 29-point win over Bucknell,
covering as slim 10 point betting favorites. Connecticut
followed that up with an 11-point win over Big East rival
Cincinnati, once again having no trouble covering the betting
line as only four point favorites.
The offshore Sportsbooks have been taking a beating on UConn as
the Huskies come into this game against San Diego State with a
seven game against the spread win streak. Can they make it eight
in row Thursday night?
Connecticut is riding on the back of their All American guard
Kemba Walker. After leading them to the Big East Tournament
Title, Walker opened up the NCAA Tournament with 18-points, 8
rebounds, and a career high 12 assists in the Bucknell route.
Against Cincinnati, he took the ball to the basket netting a
whopping 33 points in addition to his 5 assists and 6 rebounds.
No matter whom Walker steps on the court against, the opponent
can’t find a way to stop him.
The Aztecs survived hanging on to beat Temple 71-64 in double
overtime to advance to these Regional Semifinals. Sports bettors
luckily cashed their tickets with San Diego State in the Temple
game as they scored a wide open dunk with a final seconds to go
to cover as 5.5-point betting favorites. They had no trouble in
their opener beating Northern Colorado 68-50, covering the line
as 14-point favorites.
Probably the most recognized person on the San Diego State team
is not a player, but their coach Steve Fisher, who led Michigan
to a NCAA Championship in 1989.
San Diego State comes into this game with an impressive 34-2
record. They also have a very good betting line record covering
the pointspread in 22 of their 34 lined games. Their only two SU
losses have been to the BYU team that is also playing in the
Sweet 16 round.
If you check San Diego State’s game logs you won’t find many
tough opponents. They did beat Gonzaga, but that was about it.
Stepping on the court against this UConn team is a big step up
in class and other than BYU, this will be the toughest team
they’ll have played to date.
The good news for San Diego State is that they get to play this
game in Anaheim. California is a long way from Connecticut. On
paper, and the way Connecticut has been playing, you might have
thought that the offshore sports books would have installed the
Huskies as a 3 to 4 point favorite. However, they opened with
San Diego State as a one-point betting line choice, but money
has moved towards UConn and now the Huskies are a 1-point
betting favorite. They do look for a low scoring game with the
betting total sitting at 130 points.
