I decided to take a look at the best and
worst MLB pitchers to bet on through the first 60+ games of the
season and quite frankly some of the names might surprise you.
Having already taken a look at the best MLB pitchers to bet on,
here is the list of the top money losing pitchers in baseball
through June 20th.
All season I have decided to take a look at the best and worst
MLB pitchers to bet on throughout the season. Having already
updated the list of the best MLB pitchers to bet on, here is the
list of the top money losing pitchers in baseball through August
1st.
Of our original top five list, only one name remains on the
current list of worst MLB pitchers to bet on. This is something
we predicted as we saw both John Danks (White Sox) and Paul
Maholm (Pirates) overcoming slow starts.
Remember that even with the advent of relief specialists,
starting pitching still remains the most important factor in
handicapping baseball!
1. JA Happ (4-17 TSR, -12.00 units) – One could make the
argument that Happ is a victim of his terrible team, the Houston
Astros, who own by far the worst record in baseball betting at
36-73. However, Happ has certainly done his part with a 6.01 ERA
and 1.630 WHIP. Since May 19th, he has a 1-12 team start record.
Happ’s only saving grace is that he will be an underdog every
time out.
2. Ubaldo Jimenez (8-13 TSR, -10.8 units) – Jimenez, a
serious Cy Young contender last season, is the only name to
remain from our original list of worst MLB pitchers to bet on.
Unlike Happ, the issue for Jimenez has been the fact that he has
been consistently favored, particularly early in the season
where he lost four times as a favorite of -180 or higher. Since
starting last season 15-1, Jimenez has been below par. The big
news is that he was traded to the Cleveland Indians at the
deadline. It will be interesting to see how he does in the less
pitcher friendly American League.
3. Doug Fister (5-16 TSR, -10.1 units) – The Seattle
Mariners’ Doug Fister is the first of three pitchers on this
list that has actually pitched well this season, but his record
does not reflect that. Fister has a 3.33 ERA in his 21 starts.
He had a terrible 0-5 TSR in the month of July as Seattle was
just awful last month. In four of those five starts, he was a
dog of +115 or more (+175 or higher three times).
4. Hiroki Kuroda (7-14 TSR, -9.5 units) – I was surprised
this Japanese star was not traded at the deadline. The Dodgers
have become a joke. What is truly amazing about Kuroda placing
on this list is the fact that he has a 3.11 ERA, which is
actually 11th best in the National League and 23rd overall in
baseball! He has a 2-8 TSR his last 10 starts. The Dodgers have
scored more than five runs in only one of Kuroda’s 21 starts
while scoring three runs or less15 times!
5. Dustin Moseley (5-15 TSR, -9.3 units) – Moseley has an
ERA of 3.38, but again here’s another pitcher who has to deal
with a lack of run support. The Padres have a team batting
average of .233. Only Seattle is worse at .227. The Padres also
have the fewest HR in baseball (57). By comparison, the Yankees
have 139. Moseley has a 2-11 TSR in night games. Enjoy and as
always best of luck
